Topic: how to keep travel stress from bamboozling your period

โ€‹

Hey Reader,

โ€‹

Just like you, I used to work a corporate job. With a crazy busy schedule. ๐Ÿ—“๏ธ

โ€‹

I was feeling stressed out and then when I would finally be back home from traveling for meetings, I would have less than zero energy to enjoy being with my favorite people. Boo.

โ€‹

When your schedule is crazy or you're on the road--do you notice how it impacts your hormones? Your digestion?

โ€‹

It took me years to learn how to prevent my stress and travel from causing chaos with my period and bloating, but now I get it. (T goodness. ๐Ÿ™ )

โ€‹

Let me help you understand what's happening to your body.

I know you want your energy back, and understanding how travel stress can impact your bod will help you bring back predictable, easy periods as well. I've got you, girl. ๐Ÿ˜‰

โ€‹

Quick note: if you already know that you want the deep dive on this topic, listen to this week's episode of I'm Hormonal where you can get allll of the details and tips.

โ€‹

TLDR: when cortisol, your stress hormone, is high... well, that can lead to:

โ€‹

โœจ lack of ovulation ... which can lead to unpredictable periods

โœจ dysregulated blood sugar... which can mean afternoon crashes

โœจ poor sleep... which means even worse blood sugar dysregulation and low energy

โ€‹

Cortisol clouds up the pathways that your sex hormones use to communicate too. When cortisol is high, it's a signal to your body that--hey, dude, it's not a good time to procreate. Let's shut off this reproductive system until this war (or whatever it is) is over.

โ€‹

Your body doesn't know that the "war" is really just you trying to get a proposal out the door on time. The body still responds the same way. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

โ€‹

And remember. Stress isn't "just" emotional stress. Anything that causes inflammation is also a source of stress that pumps up cortisol.

โ€‹

Think: alcohol, excess caffeine, chemicals, over exercising, under eating. โ˜•๏ธ

โ€‹

What are the simplest places to start? So you can have less stressful weeks starting asap.

Here are my go-tos! When I leave for a trip, I like to...

๐Ÿ’Š pack a vitamin or something like AG1
๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™€๏ธ include magnesium, good for stress
๐Ÿคฟ bring an eye mask for quality sleep
๐Ÿซ– bring tea, because routine helps me feel grounded and in control of the day
โšก pack an electrolyte mix, especially if flying
๐Ÿฅœ plan for nourishing snacks

โ€‹

I know that you want to understand exactly where to start. You've already tried so many things, so let's get it right this time. That's why... โฌ‡๏ธ

โ€‹

#1 place to start: bring snacks that are protein- and fat-forward, that was you're supporting your blood sugar levels and you're feeling satiated. Of course, get solid meals in too. For me, this was a real game changer and is something I never leave for a trip without.

โ€‹

#2 item to add: figure out what it is that can help you feel grounded and in control of the day. Whether that's a solid planner or prioritization method. Maybe a midday walk that you NEVER skip. Or a pre/post-work routine that you look forward to.

โ€‹

It's undeniable. When it comes to your period, stress is a big influencer.

Stress has a gigantic impact on your sex hormones. A ginormous impact on your period. And a gargantuan impact on your energy levels throughout the day.

โ€‹
